Music and Shit

The music player I ended up buying

Lately I’ve been getting into music more than before. I had already moved away from streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music by self-hosting my own server that I streamed to my phone. Unfortunately the reliability just wasn’t there. The server would constantly lose connection to the internet, and towards the end would even delete my playlists. I finally said screw it and got a dedicated music player with a 256Gb micro-SD card. So far it’s been actually really fun to go through and rebuild my audio library with all FLAC files instead of whatever random format I was able to find and throw on the server.

I have a fair bit of whatever random genres I end up listening to, but my main genre lately has been somewhere in the punk area of music. I still need to go through and procure some more of the standard “punk” albums, but that just takes more time and energy than I have currently. If we’re being honest, the seven seas were and are indeed sailed. However, I do purchase albums or songs here and there to support the smaller indie artists I enjoy listening to. My philosophy of it is kinda, I’m pretty broke, and a lot of the bigger “mainstream” artists already make decent enough money, whereas the smaller more “indie” bands and artists need the support more. So as a broke college student, I will be prioritizing spending my money on those artists, while continuing to procure music from bigger artist through other means.

On that topic of artists, I’ll leave a list of artists, albums, and singles that I currently have downloaded to my player. I make no promises on whether or not I’ll keep it updated. Potentially I’ll make a dedicated page on the site to track all that.

Also in that same vein of music. I ended up purchasing my first electric guitar as well. I had two acoustics already, and kinda understand how to play, but also suck ass at playing. I picked up an electric because I’d heard that the action is typically lower on them, making them somewhat easier to play. As someone with chronic joint issues, especially in my fingers, this was definitely an appealing aspect to an electric. Another reason I got it, I wanted something I could learn on without feeling like I was bothering everyone else in the house. With the very basic setup I have, I’m able to plug headphones into the cheap amp I bought with it. The guitar does still make sound, but that’s unavoidable, and it’s a hell of a lot quieter than an acoustic. So yeah! I’ve been going through a course on Udemy, to try and re-learn the absolute basics, and go from there.

Currently listening to these artists. If they’re starred, it’s because I can’t find how to buy downloadable music from them:
